Yamaha R15 & R3 70th Anniversary Editions

Yamaha is celebrating seven decades of two-wheeled passion in style. The Japanese brand has unveiled limited-run 70th Anniversary editions of its much-loved supersport machines, the R15 and R3, in Brazil. If you have a soft spot for classic racing liveries, these specials are guaranteed to turn your head.

The biggest draw is the vintage white-and-red paint scheme – a direct nod to Yamaha’s factory racing colours from the 1960s, well before the iconic blue took over in the late 1990s. The look is finished with bold ‘Speed Block’ graphics, a design language that first appeared in the 1970s. The pattern was crafted to convey a sense of motion even when the bike is parked, and against the clean white bodywork it creates a striking, old-school contrast. The red also spills over onto the windscreen and fuel tank on both models, while the R3 goes a step further with a red front fender. A commemorative 70th-anniversary logo on the tank and a golden Yamaha tuning fork emblem seal the heritage package. While the R15 retains blacked-out front forks, the anniversary R3 flaunts golden upside-down forks.

Just 1,800 bikes, only for Brazil

Yamaha is keeping these editions properly exclusive. Only 1,200 units of the R15 70th Anniversary Edition and 600 units of the R3 70th Anniversary Edition will be produced. In Brazil, the R15 ABS special is priced at BRL 24,090 (around Rs 4.69 lakh), and the R3 ABS anniversary model comes in at BRL 37,790 (about Rs 7.36 lakh). It is worth noting that these are Brazil-specific prices and the bikes are not currently sold in India with this colourway.

Engines and hardware stay unchanged

Under the retro skin, the mechanical package is identical to the standard versions. There is no performance boost here – the story is all about the looks.

What’s in it for the fans outside Brazil?

These white-and-red beauties are a rolling tribute to Yamaha’s racing DNA – the colours that secured the brand’s first world championships in Grand Prix racing. For now, the 70th Anniversary treatment is exclusive to the Brazilian market, and there is no official word on whether India or other countries will get similar throwback editions. But given the massive fan base the R15 and R3 enjoy across the globe, it is safe to say many eyes will stay glued to Yamaha’s next move. Until then, these limited-run specials give a delicious taste of the speed, history and passion packed into those tuning forks.
